This week we started working on our "This I Believe" essays. It's hard on all of us because it's forcing us to really think about our lives and our beliefs and how we came to those conclusions.
I understand that this is meant to be a challenging assignment, and it it. So congratulations, Schoenborn. I, like most of the class, wished that we didn't have to do this assignment at all. After writing my rough draft, though, I just don't care. I don't care what anybody thinks about my topic for the paper. Everyone will write about SOMETHING, and that leaves us all on the same playing field, really.
I was freaked out that we had to share it with the whole class, but in the end, my life isn't going to change because they may or may not think differently of me. Everyone is going to have to share theirs and so what's the point of having all this anxiety? There isn't one.
Right now, my essay is just an essay. I feel like once I put the music and photos in (There will be a lot of real life ones I imagine), it will be a STORY. It's weird to me that all of these things actually happened to all these people.
It has been interesting, even now, so early in the process, to hear about what other people will be writing about. People are people, and we all have so many different thoughts and experiences. I really enjoy hearing what they have to say because then I just KNOW them a little better. It's an easy way to feel closer to the class you grew up with, ya know?
