This week was actually fairly interesting to me. We started off (I started off my week on Tuesday) talking about Shakespeare and the project that we will be completing for the duration of this marking period. I was adopted by a good group of people, so hopefully all will go well.
On Wednesday we were introduced to our second poem of the week, which was quite sad, but I thought it was also beautiful. You have this grand statue of a king of ancient times, and at the time he was all-powerful, everyone knew his name. But the poem is written in more modern times, when nobody recognizes his name. He's not well known to us, and the power that he once held is completely depleted. His statue is crumbling into ruins, symbolizing his downfall in the most efficient way possible. He, and his power, are long gone.
On Thursday, we watched some clips of Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart talking about various aspects of King Lear and Macbeth. That was interesting but I will admit to it being kind of hard to stay awake in the conditions we were in. A hot room, lights off, and their monotonous voices were trying to lull me to sleep. It didn't work.
Also, I think it's really cute that they're real life best friends. There are so many pictures of them goofing off and having a good ol' time. I don't know, I hope I have a friend like that when I'm old.
